2015 Carolina West RibFest Canceled

An extensive search for a better venue in Asheville has come to a fruitless end, and as a result, the Carolina West RibFest will not be held this year. Promoter Allen McDavid is
leaving the door open for a possible renewal in 2016. We need a large downtown location, and those aren't readily available in Asheville.

The RibFest had its beginnings in 2007 and was then known as the Carolina Mountain RibFest. It was created by John Patterson who operated it through 2013. Unfortunately his
health which prompted his decision to turn over the reins to McDavid of AKA Entertainment & Media, based in Greensboro, NC. AKA produces several BBQ festivals across the state
of NC as part of the Carolina Blonde Beer NC Premier BBQ Series.

Last year McDavid changed the event's name to Carolina West RibFest and put on the 2014 festival at the Western NC Agricultural Center in Fletcher, NC, the venue that hosted it in
all previous years. According to McDavid, the Ag Center is a great place from an infrastructure standpoint, but just too far out of town for an event like ours to be economically viable.
In every other city AKA's  BBQ festivals are located in downtown areas. Additionally, the RibFest is 3 days long and runs 12 hours per day and requires a large level space, a need
that is in short supply in Asheville.

Says McDavid, “I want to especially thank Jon Fillman with the City of Asheville and County Commissioner David Gannt for all their help in the search.” He continues, “I really love
Asheville, so it is my desire to produce another festival there in the future.”
